You’re walking along the Oudegracht and can’t help glancing inside. First you notice the character of the building. Then the warm materials, the quiet details and that one table you’d quite like to sit at. You step in, and it feels familiar straight away. How long you’ll stay is anyone’s guess.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner. No rush.
Mornings start slowly: coffee, a croissant from Bakkerij Vroeg and nowhere to be just yet. A quick lunch is fine. A long lunch is even better. By evening there are a few plates in the middle of the table, a glass on the side, and everyone takes a bit. The food menu at Bar Patine takes its cues from French and Flemish cooking: refined, but never fussy. Save room for the Grand Finale.

The wine list is mostly French, and the house wine arrives the way it would in France: in a carafe, with small glasses. The spritz comes by the jug. Add something to eat and stay for a borrel: drinks, a few bites and no need to rush off. A wine bar in Utrecht, with a kitchen to match.
